Lightning F.2A XN795 at Neatishead, 20th July 2022; Richard E Flagg
Delivered to the RAF in 1963 and retired in 1974, before being transferred to the Proof and Experimental Establishment (PEE) at Foulness Island in 1979. When PEE had finished with the aircraft, XN795 was scrapped but thankfully leaving the cockpit intact.
The cockpit moved to Rayleigh where it stayed for some time before being moved to East Bilney. In 2019, the cockpit was purchased alongside cockpit XS421 by Carl Lamb, who moved them to Neatishead in Norfolk. Both cockpits are slowly being cleaned up and restored.
However, in 2025, by surprise, the cockpit of XN795 had been exported to South Africa, where it had been acquired by the Stellenbosch Flying Club, and has since been fitted onto the fuselage of former Thunder City jet XR773.
